Day Time is Play Time for Your Dog at Day Care for Dogs!

Typical Day at Day Care for Dogs:

Here at Day Care for Dogs (DCFD) we understand that your dog is very important to you and would like to take this opportunity to tell you what your dog will experience in a typical day. Dog owners can be confident that their dogs are in the best of hands as proven through the program’s success since 1990. The Rancho Coastal Humane Society has owned Day Care for Dogs since 2003. We are proud to support the shelter with funding to help provide for the animals that need homes. At DCFD we have the best dogs in the county and we take pride in bringing them home tired and happy.

Day Care For Dogs is open Monday through Friday and includes pick-up and drop-off delivery service. With the exception of major holidays and rainy days, our DCFD vans are driven to pick up the dogs between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Upon arriving at the yard, a typical morning begins with grouping the dogs appropriately and ensuring the dogs are happy and comfortable with one another. We introduce first-timers to their new friends, monitor the activities, fill water bowls with fresh water and then the play begins. While in the fenced enclosures, the dogs are always off leash with 5 to 30 other furry friends. Some dogs begin the morning with a little bit of chase, wrestling or pets and massages from us.

In the late morning we may walk the dogs, on leash, or take them out for a little adventure. Lunchtime allows the dogs and us to rest. Afterwards, we continue to provide constant attention, supervision, stimulation and fresh water. We start brushing and/or washing the dogs around 3 p.m. to prepare them for home. We drive the dogs home typically between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. (depending on traffic). When the dogs are on their way home they are either asleep or relaxing with a big smile. New dogs may experience muscle soreness from all the exercise and play and may not recharge until the next day while others may recharge in the evening. In some cases we restrict the amount of exercise for a dog, especially if the dog does not know his limit.

Our staff is trained to use the "Silent Alpha" method by Graham Bloem*. We NEVER use aggression to correct "bad" behavior. Graham has an excellent resume of training certifications and has been working at the Rancho Coastal Humane Society in helping make "difficult" dogs more adoptable. Out goal is to keep your dog safe and happy. We have a lot of fun and love our job! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. We look forward to meeting your dog!
